Dry Brushing & Lymphatic Drainage

Lymphatic drainage massage is a gentle technique that aims to stimulate the flow of lymph fluid in the body, promoting the removal of toxins and waste. Using a dry brush for lymphatic drainage can enhance this process and contribute to overall well-being. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to perform a lymphatic drainage massage with a dry brush:

1. Choose the right dry brush

A natural bristle brush with soft, non-synthetic bristles is perfect for dry brushing. A firm but soft brush is recommended as it’s enough to stimulate the lymph nodes, but not too harsh on your skin. Our body brush is perfect for this massage.

2. When to perform the massage

On dry skin, just before you hop in the shower. Make sure you open up all of your lymph nodes before starting. This can be done by rubbing or gently pressing the skin in key areas (chest, armpits, pelvic area near your hips, groin, and behind the knees). Check out this link if you’re not sure where they are. Do this daily or a few times a week to see optimal results!

3. Begin at the feet

Start at your feet and brush in the direction of your heart. Use long, sweeping motions and brush each area multiple times. This helps to follow the natural flow of lymphatic drainage.

4. Brushing Technique

Use gentle, upward strokes toward the heart. Always brush in the direction of lymphatic flow to encourage the drainage process. Avoid brushing back and forth. A light pressure is recommended.

5. Brush your abdomen

Use circular motions on your abdomen in a clockwise direction. This follows the natural movement of the intestines and promotes better digestion and lymphatic drainage. Avoid this step if you are pregnant.

6. Always avoid sensitive areas or broken skin

Avoid sensitive areas, broken skin, or areas with skin conditions. The goal is to stimulate, not irritate.

7. Finish with hydration

Hop in the shower to rinse off the dead skin cells, and follow up with a body oil or body butter for the smoothest skin.

Things to remember:

If you experience any discomfort or irritation, seek advice from a professional. Similarly, if you have any existing health concerns, check that this technique is for you.

Always clean your brush after use, wash with mild soapy water and let it air dry.

Hydration is your friend. Whether that’s drinking water or creaming your skin.
